Over the years the necessity of building condominiums especially in the metro has been quite extensive since it has become the dwelling of choice for the urban Filipino who struggles to live in a ridiculously overcrowded city where property prices increases every year and worst traffic situation is a problem. Condo living seems to be the only logical solution.
For some, the idea of living in a condo is sort of stifling due to its limited space. But it’s still a home and of course, you would want your place to be livable and look lovely. Because of limited space, we think that designing it is a little bit daunting. SM Home recognizes this fact and for the first time, they will hold the first edition of SM Home’s new design series, ”Essentials of Condo Living” that will feature how to design condo’s small places.
A project of SM Home assistant vice president for marketing, Tom Castañeda, the design series talks aims to help condo-dwellers. “Since small condos demand creativity when it comes to optimizing space, SM Home has turned to design experts to help highlight ways to do that through a series of condo-like setups, as well as expert-led talks,” he said during the media presentation on the ground concourse of the SM Makati store last September 12, 2017.
As the series talk takes place this weekend, September 16 and 17, 2017, here’s the top five reasons why you should see it:
SMALL SPACE IS NOT A PROBLEM
The series presumption is that any condo can be beautiful despite its very small living spaces and that there is way to optimize and style it up. If you attend, you will have to learn how to maximize your space and to live comfortably without feeling cooped up.
LEARN FROM GREAT PROFESSIONAL DESIGNERS
For the Essentials of Condo Living setups, SM Home partnered with four talented architects and designers Maya Franco, Erika Uichanco, Ivy Crisostomo and James Razo. They were divided into two teams to create individual living spaces. Each pair was tasked to work together and combine their assigned areas within the confines of a limited space. Maya Franco and Erika Uichanco were assigned the kitchen and dining room areas, while Ivy Crisostomo and James Razo were given the living room and bedroom spaces to design and style. Both teams were given free rein to select from SM Home’s full range of condo perfect items from shelves, beds, dividers, tables, and even appliances, storage bins and décor.
Maya Franco is a Cebu-based architect and the manager of her own design firm Maya Franco Design Group. Having done work all over the country, her firm’s projects is also featured in Real Living, Zee Quarterly, Space, and SunStar.
Erika Uichanco, a graduate of Ateneo de Manila, discovered her passion for interior design when she worked as a sales executive for Rockwell Land. She pursued her passion at the Philippine School of Interior Design and recognized as one of Real Living Magazine’s “Creatives to Watch” in 2015.
Ivy Crisostomo is the most senior of the designers tapped for this showcase with 20 years of work under her belt. In those two decades she has done project management, design direction, and even financial administration. She has a special interest in interior lighting that she recently explored at Parsons School of Design in New York City.
James Razo’s flare for the dramatic reflects on how he works and creating home designs. Apart from being an accomplished interior designer, he also does work on event styling and animation for multi-national brands. James is the Managing Creative Director of his own design firm The Gold Team Design Hub / @TheGoldTeamPH, and a lecturer of the UP College of Interior Design.

The popular, Scandi-chic is considered to be more minimalist, which makes it a perfect choice for small spaces. The addition of rustic-luxe elements helps give the spaces a lived-in and relaxed vibe, something that can be lost in today’s smaller, low-ceilinged condos.
Both highly styled setups feature novel and inventive ways to define each living area, while maintaining a cohesive look.
