Tanza, Cavite province is just about 30 kilometers from Baclaran Church , Parañaque , Metro Manila . The municipality is known for their  religious festivities ,  agricultural lands , fishing grounds,  old ancestral houses and her culinary heritage .  The first class municipality is now experiencing rapid urban growth and very near within export processing zones with an estimated population of about 230,000 residents.

Tanza is also very accessible via several types of passenger vehicles . Among the most iconic are the mini-buses which can sit between 30 to 50 passengers sitting comfortably inside. This is the cheapest mode of transportation . Sometimes, passenger would squeeze themselves inside the mini-buses .  These are almost similar to our iconic Philippine jeepneys with elaborate and artistic pop-art – Some people say that they are modern moving pop art culture of the Cavite. One must try to ride these mini-buses before these are phased-out by the LTFRB due to pollution and some safety issues.

History and Origin 

It was then part of Santa Cruz de Malabon ( now known as General Trias)  called Estancia  before   became a separate town in 1770, People called it sometimes as Malabón el Chico to differentiate it from Malabón el Grande that was the población of San Francisco de Malabón (el Grande).

Then again as an independent municipality in 1910. The name was changed to Tanza by virtue of Act No. 2390 around 1914. Hence the town had just celebrated their centennial on 2014.

There are several historical events which the town had witness in Philippine history , It the was Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo took his oath as first President of the Republic at the convent of the Holy Cross Church lies at the northwest part of Cavite.

Among the famous celebrities and politicians which hails their origin from the Tanza includes Felipe G. Calderon ( father of Malolos Constitution ) , Hon . Antero Soriano ( senator and governor of Cavite ), Ms. Jasmine Trias ( 3rd season -American Idol 3rd place)  , Mr. Ranidel de Ocampo and Mr. Yancy de Ocampo  ( PBA players) , Mr. Julius Segovia ( former GMA news reporter ) , Mr. Mars Ravelo ( graphic novelist) Lyca Jane Gairanod ( Voice Kids Grand Champion ) among several lists of notable personalities.

Ancestral houses are normally located near Saint Agustine Church or  Holy Cross Parish Church Diocesan Shrine of St. Augustine. There is a small parochial school beside the church and a mini-museum which holds special place among residents of Tanza .

Saint Agustine is fondly called ” Tata Usteng ” by the devotees with the feast of Saint Augustine is celebrated every 28th of August. He is also referred to Saint Agustine of Tanza , in reference to the town. Tata Usteng is said to hold a special place among the residents as countless of miracles were attributed to the image.  The church is also the place where General Emilio Aguinaldo took is oath of office.

Lola Flaviana Figuerroa Arayata or fondly called “ Lola Abeng ” by those who remembered her. According to local townsfolk , she was a philanthropist, great cook and is the matriarch of the Arayata political clan , which includes the current vice mayor of the municipality .

The family decided to open a restaurant last July 2016 in her honor . The restaurant is  just a few steps beside the Tanza Municipal Hall and Police station. The barbecued chicken and pork had its own special marinate , home-style atsara and with complimentary bulalo soup. Php 115 per order. MUST TRY  while the barbecued chicken with beef barbecue cost Php 120 per order. These are called Lola Abeng’s Combo Meal .

Other favorites are the barkada meals which cost between Php 325.00 to Php 625.00 per barkada meals – These are for sharing between 3 to 6 people.

The restaurant is also known for their desserts which includes mais con yelo Php 60 per order ,sago’t gulaman,  Php 50 per order and their own family halo-halo at Php 90 per order . Calle Real Restaurant is located within Poblacion area. This ancestral house is also referred as Casa Tahimic in reference to the surname of the owners. The ancestral was originally designed as duplex style for the family of Marcelo Tahimic, Sr. and the other part of the house was for Marcelo’s brother Cayetano Tahimic. The Ancestral house was built around 1926 to 1927 with nice veranda and grilled windows facing the main street . Among the specialties are the Paella Negra , Pasta Marinara , Garlic Sotanghon Guisado , Fried Chicken ,  Lumpiang Shanghai and their salad.

The restaurant offers an interesting eclectic mixture of Spanish , Chinese , Filipino and heirloom family recipes which were handed for several generations. The restaurant was open sometime in the mid- 1990’s with a lot of interesting furniture , fixtures and decors which were accumulated over several generations.

Pink Table – a waffle and coffee shop place located at the second floor of the ancestral house was open few years later serving delicious waffles, shakes, churros , potato wages, chicken pastel , beef mushroom pie , meaty mac and cheese.

Churros with chocolate dip – is the a MUST TRY when you visit the Pink Table or Calle Real restaurant , this only cost Php 50 per serving and can be shared with another person. This one had cinnamon powder and sugar as topping. For those without sweet tooth , One can simply request the staffs not to add sugar to the churros.

Each of the rooms were decorated with a lot of nice and interesting stuffs. This is one of the best example of an ancestral house turned into a restaurant and function site.
