Vino lovers in Quezon City have more reasons to celebrate with the new and bigger space Grape Escape has at 99 Maginhawa Street Teachers’ Village East, Quezon City. This one-of-a-kind haven offers a more upscale experience from the usual joints in the area.
Grape Escape Wine Lounge and Kitchen started as a stall at the StrEat Foodpark in 2015. “It was our loyal fanbase comprised of young professionals and wine enthusiasts who requested we move to a bigger place, so that we can serve a wider array of dishes and have more wine selections”, says Raymond Veloso, one of Grape’s owners and the resident sommelier. Their new location provides a laid-back countryside ambience. “Whether you prefer refreshing whites or bold reds, Grape Escape will definitely have amazing wines in store for you”, adds Veloso.
How to pair wine and food
Chef Harvey Bucay’s tasty creations, inspired by Mediterranean street side bistros scattered throughout Europe, are perfectly paired with Grape’s selection of wines. Lighter fare such as salads, fruit, potatoes (or crackers) are best paired with a light and refreshing wine such are Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio. They also work well with white and full-bodied wines such as Chardonnay. Chardonnay also works well with fish and lighter pasta dishes.
If you’re eating meats like chicken, pork or beef, Zinfandel, works best. Spicy or peppery food like sausages also go well with Zinfandel. If you wish to have a bolder wine, reds such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese. More sophisticated palates would want to pair their meats with Pinot Noir or Stilettos.
Pair your vino of choice with these bestsellers from their menu. The Sausage and Artisanal Cheese Platter go well with white wine and Zinfandel. The Osso Buco, tender beef shanks cooked in wine, tomatoes, carrots and spices, pairs well with either the Zinfandel or the Merlot.
Other favorites include Pork Chops, Salpicao, Chicken Fritters and Albondigas Tapas. Hand-crafted Carbonara Pizza topped with bacon is also one of their most-requested dish. Grape Escape’s desserts are likewise winners, as are all prepared by Patisserie Chef Nichola Santos. The Sexy Chocolate Cake and Blueberry Tiramisu are must-haves.
