Philatelists, rejoice! ASEANPEX 2017 recently featured 400 exhibit frames of non-competing stamp collection from ASEAN member countries displayed at Hall #1 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
This year’s organizing committee includes PHLPOST, Post Shop, Philately and Museum Division, Business Lines Department; with several government department having booths at the site.
Some of these booths include the Department of Tourism, Department of Foreign Affairs, National Commission for the Culture and the Arts , Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and the Nemi Miranda artist exhibition.
The exhibition was sponsored by SM Investment Corporation, Filmetrics, Mama Sita’s Foundation with the active support from Philippine Philatelic Federation, local stamp collecting clubs and collectors.
ASEANPEX 2017 Opening Highlights
Some of the highlights of the ASEANPEX 2017 included a cultural show with a performance by the world famous Bayanihan Dance Company; a meet and greet with PHLPOST Living Legends; talks and activity on Philately, Stamp Launchings, ASEAN Cosplay among others.

Filipino Olympians, Manny Pacquiao, Miss World 2013 Megan Young, Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz, Miss Universe 1973 Margie Moran and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach were among the famous Filipino living legends that were featured in local Philippine stamps. It is quite rare of a living person to be featured in local stamps.
Former president Fidel Valdez Ramos also went to the exhibition late afternoon of November 4 and shared his personal stories of his stamp collection.
Federation of Inter-Asian Philately
Among the distinguished international guest is the secretary general Mr. Richard Tan of the”Federation of Inter-Asian Philately” abbreviated as F.I.A.P., is a non-profit and non-political federation of philatelic societies in Asia and Australasia, founded in Singapore on the 14th September 1974.
The exhibit was visited by Mr. Prakob Chirakiti president of F.I.A.P .
Mr. Willard Cheng is one of the stamp ambassadors invited at the ASEANPEX 2017. He started collecting stamps when he was given some stamps by his father way back in 1992. He also had several stamps collected from different ASEAN member countries.
Philippine Tuberculosis Society Inc.
The Philippine Tuberculosis Society, Inc. (PTSI) is the largest private NGO and longest serving medical institution engaged in the detection, control and treatment of tuberculosis in the Philippines.
One of the fund raising project of the society is selling limited edition TB SEAL. The TB seal is available at their booth within SMX Convention Center. Each sheet cost Php 300 or Php 600 per set of TB Seal.
Some of the featured TB seal were paintings made by local artists.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the Founding Fathers of ASEAN (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand).
Brunei Darussalam then joined on 7 January 1984, Vietnam on 28 July 1995, Lao PDR and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999, making up what is today the ten Member States of ASEAN.
There are several ASEAN countries which had booths at the SMX Convention Center.
Thailand Post Office
The Thailand Post Office was one the international booths that were selling limited edition commemorative stamps from their country.
Unlike other events, There is no entrance fees! The last time that the country had hosted an ASEAN country exhibition was in 1996 at SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City.
