The country’s most awaited marathon for literacy, the McDonald’s Stripes Run, is back for the eighth straight year with its registration open for runners and enthusiasts. Runners who will don Ronald McDonald’s famous red and white striped socks will once again Run for Reading and join friends and families for this fun-filled activity.
Every year, the McDonald’s Stripes Run is a big family affair where participants have the chance to bond and donate to the flagship program of the Ronald McDonald House Charities Read to Learn program at the same time.
Statistics shows that 40 percent of grade one students in public school are not able to read and without this basic skill, the student will struggle for most of his or her entire school life. This is the basic truth that McDonald wants to change.
For every sign up and registration, McDonald’s will donate one reading kit to a public school through the Ronald McDonald Read to Learn program, a beginning reading program for grades 1 and 2 public school students. As stated by Ms. Marie Angeles during the McDonald’s Stripes for Run press conference, “Your participation will go a long way in helping fellow Filipinos in need.”
This advocacy is also close to running Coach Rio dela Cruz’s heart which is why his RUNRIO is also the organizer for the McDonald’s Stripes Run.
There will be two legs of the McDonald’s Stripes Run this year, one on November 25, 2017 for Cebu, to be held at the Cebu IT Park and the other on December 3, 2017 for the Manila leg to be held at the McKinley West, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
