Psst.PH Recommends: The Greatest Showman

Americans love their Circus. In fact, its love affair with it began in the late 1700s and still continues through modern times. The circus is said to be the forerunner of show business. One of the famous personalities in the circus world is P.T. Barnum, who ushered in its golden era and whose life inspired the  “The Greatest Showman”.

It is amazing how the fascinating and the complex life story of P.T. Barnum is created in the more than two hours film and the result is one charismatic musical where you cannot find fault in each performance.

Starring Hugh Jackman, who portrays the role of P.T. Barnum, he effortlessly sings and dances Barnum’s story and his adventures into the world of circus and show business during the 1800s. With him is Zac Efron, as his business associate Phillip Carlyle; Michelle Williams, who plays his wife; Rebecca Ferguson, who plays Jenny Lind, a singer whom he promoted in his show around the country; the lovely Zendaya, one of the trapeze artists; and all the lovable characters who make up the “circus”, including Broadway star Keala Settle as Lettie Lutz, the Bearded Lady, who sings the film’s anthem, “This Is Me”.

Without hesitation, insists that you watch this movie especially if you are a fan of musicals. More than the story, the musical numbers are its best part.

In this film, Hugh Jackman will charm his way into your heart with his song and dance. You will remember that Zac Efron once starred in High School Musical and he has evolved greatly from Troy to Philip Carlyle. And Rebecca Ferguson, she will wow you with her voice. Moreover, the choreography of the movie is so impressive as well as the lively and memorable songs. Truth be told, while the end credits is running, I find myself searching if the soundtrack of the movie is already in Spotify.

Not wanting to give out spoilers, all I can say is that The Greatest Showman is like a chocolate that gives off plenty of happy feelings. It is lively and entertaining, all the songs are catchy and the talented cast of fun characters are so adorable.

The Greatest Showman is directed by first-time feature director Michael Gracey and culled from the mind of Jenny Bick.

The movie will have advance screening on January 22 and 23 in selected theaters in Manila while regular showing will be on January 31, 2018.

The Greatest Showman is brought to you by 20th Century Fox.
