Music Competition launches to create awareness of the Banaue Rice Terraces

Calling all local and international composers, Universal Harvester, Inc. and the local government of Banaue is offering you a new experience to create MUSIC inspired by BANAUE – its people, traditions, landscapes, unique rituals and dances in the competition dubbed as the 2018 BANAUE INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COMPOSITION COMPETITION.

Not only is this a great opportunity for the composers but it also aims to promote awareness of our country’s world heritage treasure – the Banaue Rice Terraces.

During the official launch held at the Rizal Ballroom of Makati Shangri-la Hotel last March 8, 2018, Dr. Milagros How, Head of the Banaue Rice Terraces Restoration Project of Universal Harvester, Inc. proudly shared, “We want to let the world know that the Philippines is home to great wonders, not just in term of natural resources, but also in inspiring talents from all over the world.”

Open to composers around the Philippines and all over the world, this is the first time that a competition of this kind and magnitude will be held in the country. This momentous event is set to bring excitement and cultural awakening to select people and the province of Banaue.

Grand prize winner will get $12,000 USD while two consolation prizes will get $6,000 USD each and great opportunity to have a week-long immersion in Banaue.

To better understand Banaue, the competition will select 20 Composer Fellows that will be a part of the Banaue Immersion Program. They will learn and experience Banaue’s culture and music. As they immersed in the culture, new perspectives and inspiration may resort to a revision in their entry right before the semi-finals. They also get the chance to rehearse their pieces with an entire orchestra in the presence of the Banaue audience.

Out of the 20, only 10 will be chosen to be the finalists that will perform during the finals night to be held on July 25, 2015 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Deadline of the submission of entries is on 15 April 2018. For more details, you can visit
