Knee pain treatment on our plate

Many Filipinos who suffer from osteoarthritis often experience stiff and painful knee.  According to the Philippine Rheumatology Association, about 2.6 million Filipino adults suffered from knee problems for the past 10 years alone.  Most doctors would recommend their patients to engage in an active lifestyle to drop the excess weight that is causing them the knee pain.  Others, though, would encourage their patients to undergo surgery or take steroid injections.  However, research shows that there is a tastier route to improvement.  PSST.ph shares tried and tested set of food one with osteoarthritis can eat to relieve the pain of his knee injury.

Omega-3 fatty acids block the proteins that break down knee cartilage.  They also block the chemicals that cause inflammation and pain in the joints.  Fish rich in Omega-3 fatty acids are mackerel, salmon, herring, and sardines.  It is advisable that a person with knee problem eat at least two servings a week of oily fish.

Vitamin C fortified food

Vitamin C has antioxidants that are necessary for cartilage development.  Antioxidants also protect the body from free radicals, slow down the progression of arthritis, and relieve pain.

Have a stock of citrus fruits like kiwi, mango, orange, and grapefruit.  Do not also forget tropical fruits like guava, papaya, and pineapple.  Vegetables like bell pepper, broccoli, cauliflower, and kale are also full of antioxidants.

Vitamin D food

Vitamin D helps prevent the collapse of cartilage and decreases the risk of joint space narrowing. Eating Vitamin D fortified food like cereals, tofu, and yogurt helps in easing the pain of osteoarthritis.

Soy protein

Soy is rich with anti-inflammatory properties which relieve knee pain discomfort among other pains. It also prevents the degradation of cartilage and even promotes cartilage repair.  A few food fortified with soy protein are soy milk, baby soybeans, and soy burgers.

Knee pain treatment

The knees are the most vulnerable joints in our body.  Even if we can’t  reverse the effects of knee damage or osteoarthritis, we can, however, slow them down.  We can even dismiss surgery, save the money, and invest instead in certain food that can fight inflammation, strengthen bones, and boost the immune system.  The best time to start that tastier and healthier route to improvement is now – before the pain hinders us to even play with our grandchildren.
