Home Remedies for Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are reddish to silvery lines caused by stretching of the skin due to rapid weight gain or to most women, because of pregnancy.  Also referred to as striae, stretch marks lighten over time but to let it fade by itself isn’t likely to happen. As these types of scarring rarely fade to become totally invisible, there are home remedies though to help minimize their appearance and make them fade more quickly.

Almond Oil

Almond oil nourishes and heals the skin quite rapidly because of its vitamin E and other nutrient components.  It also reduces scarring, smoothens skin, and improves complexion.

Apply all over the stretch marks a mixture of one to two tablespoons of sweet almond oil and few drops of essential oil.  It is best to warm the mixture first before massaging onto the skin.

Aloe vera

Aloe Vera’s cooling and healing properties make it an effective herbal remedy to minimize the appearance of stretch marks.  It also has a natural skin softening agent which proves safe even for daily use.

To use, rub an Aloe Vera leaf to the affected area for about 10 minutes for the skin to fully absorb it. Do not forget to rinse it off with lukewarm water.  For favorable results, make this as a regular practice every after a shower.

To use, just mix one tablespoon of baking soda with lemon juice and form a paste.  Apply the mixture onto the skin, use cling wrap, and let it stay for about 30 minutes.  Remove the wrap and wash skin with warm water.

Castor Oil

Castor oil contains ricinoleic acid, a skin-conditioning agent which makes stretch marks appear lighter.   It also remedies other skin problems like dark spots, fine lines, and pimples.

To apply, just warm the castor oil slightly and massage it gently onto the skin in a circular motion. Do this daily for about 20 minutes before going to bed.  In no time, positive results are easily recognized.

Cocoa Butter

Cocoa butter has anti-aging components.  It also hydrates the skin and makes it supple.  It can penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin to replenish and even repair damaged cells.  These properties make cocoa butter as an effective remedy to diminish the unsightly lines of stretch marks.

One needs a tablespoon of cocoa butter and massage it on the affected area for twice a day.  Improvement will be seen after about two months of continued application.

Coffee scrub

Coffee is high in caffeine that stimulates the wearing down of fats under the skin aside from its known antioxidant components.  It can penetrate the skin easily thus rubbing a mixture of coffee grounds and water onto the skin will readily enhance the blood flow in that area. This simple rubbing act works well to lighten stretch marks.

Do not forget to rinse with warm water and apply moisturizer, though.  One may even add a tablespoon or two of olive oil or aloe vera gel for better results.

Mix two egg whites and apply a layer of this mixture onto the skin.  One may use a brush or her fingers.  Let the mixture dry completely for about 10 minutes. Rinse the hardened mixture off the skin with lukewarm water.

Lemon Juice

Lemon contains acid known for minimizing acne scars, bruises, and even stretch marks. One only needs to massage the lemon juice onto the skin in a circular motion and rinse with warm water after. It has been proven more effective if one adds cucumber juice and flour to make a paste mixture then apply to affected area.
