Experts agree that sport teaches kids more than responsibility. It helps children develop social skills they will be needing in life. It is inevitable. Playing the same sport for an extended period may lead to burnout. This happens when the child feels mentally tired thus losing the fun aspect of the activity. For him, the game becomes more of a work that he may soon dislike going to practices. Burnouts also may bring pressure and remorseful attitude.
Avoid the same bodily injury
Playing the usual sport constantly means no variety in movement and muscle development. The player uses the same bones and muscles similarly which may begin to wear out from overuse. Doing the usual drills often leads to overuse injuries, too, like sprains, tears in muscles, and strains.
Trainers encourage parents to enroll their children in as many activities as possible. Concentrating on one sport, in hopes of maturing into a star player, may bring more harm than joy. A child may easily get tired and used to the activity to the point of hating it by the mere mention of its name. Letting a kid try various activities allow him to get used to his body in different ways. It allows him as well to discover his potential and provide him with knowledge in different areas. To add, more sports mean better opportunity to be exposed to new team roles and help him become a well-rounded player.
Each different achievement gives different levels of success. Same with trying and being successful in a new sport, a child’s self-confidence improves. This adds to his self-esteem and reminds him that he can achieve more when he gives new challenges a chance.
Take time off
Doing the same activity over and over again may make one feel tired, sometimes even cranky. Overexposure to the same sport may be counterproductive. Just like school, your youngster needs to rest his body and mind. Variety is important, giving him a fresh new start. If he uses his hands too much from dribbling and shooting the ball, he may also discover the strength of his legs and shoulders as he tries soccer.
