Freelance Friday: Grow Space BGC — worth the trek

Our remote team tried the newest coworking space in town, Grow Space BGC. How did it go? Well, we came home feeling inspired to write a two-part review.

Part 1 presents the perspective of someone who has to cross cities to reach this nook for freelancers, startup founders, and hustlers in general. Read on.

If, like me, you are a freelancer who gets cabin fever most of the time, working from coffee shops and coworking spaces helps immensely in keeping yourself productive. Unfortunately, where I’m from (Cubao, Quezon City), there are not a lot of coffices and coworking spaces. The famous coffee chains are always filled to the brim, and the only coworking space that I know of is too expensive. So when my team leader invited me to work with her at a coworking space in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig, I jumped at the chance.

On the way to Grow Space BGC and while calculating my daily budget given that I had to spend on a rather expensive Uber ride to get there, I started to think that it might be the first and last time I’d be working in the BGC area. Travelling from Cubao to BGC on a weekday is not exactly hassle-free.

We were running late for our 1 PM appointment that we got a bit worried about losing our seats. But the office manager was nice enough to give us directions to the place and extended the operating hours for an hour just so we could get the most out of our half-day pass.

For Php250, we had access to high-speed internet, a cold and comfortable working space with lots of plants, long tables with sturdy chairs, and free-flowing coffee and water. There were also shelves filled with books we could borrow, and the ambient music was relaxing enough to make me productive and not panic over my deadlines.

The white walls and high ceilings of Grow Space BGC added to its charm. Natural light entered the room through its wide windows. It really felt like an oasis in the middle of the concrete jungle that was BGC. The manager attended to our every need, even going out of his way to ask if we needed anything and if we had suggestions to make finding the place easy.

I am definitely coming back, travel time and Uber fees be damned.

Grow Space BGC is located at Commercial 30 UG/F South of Market, 25th Street corner 11th Avenue, Taguig. A full-day, 8-hour pass costs Php400, while a half-day pass is at Php250.
