Food Fiesta at Barangay 76 by Marriot Hotel Manila

Food Fiesta was the theme that Marriott Group Asia Pacific together with Meliomar celebrated a Barangay Fiesta together with Barangay Captain Cecilo San Miguel of Barangay 76, Zone 10 in Pasay City .

The Barangay Captain and barangay officials warmly welcomed 30 executive chefs from different Marriott establishments all over Asia- Pacific region held last on Tuesday August 1, 2017.

There was a roasted pig and a live band which performed within Meliomar compound along Russel street. The Marriot Hotel had been doing the workshop among several countries in Asia-Paciic region for several years and this is one of the highlight of the event.

The Fiesta’s main theme was highlighting the importance of sustainable seafood and its criteria in a fun cooking competition. Six cooking stations with five chefs each were competing against each other with different sustainable seafood products, like hand line caught Yellow fin Tuna and Mahi -Mahi, Tiger Prawns and responsibly sourced Squid.

The event started past 3:00 pm with the cooked -off challenge . They were given at least one hour to finish the menus and people were given plastic balls in order or them to judge the winner of the challenge.

There was also unlimited amount of drinks and pabitin usually played in birthday parties and town fiestas. It involves a lattice of bamboo sticks (called a balag) suspended in the air with string. This is for the children and people within the community. Some children were given stuff toys by some of the chefs.

After the cook-of challenge, more than 200 indigent people and people from the barangay were given free foods courtesy of the organizers.

This Fiesta was part of Marriott Manila’s Chef Conference 2017 “Bar & Chef” and an event of the Sustainable Seafood Initiative Philippines.

It was a great success and fun, A lot of knowledge could be transferred and awareness raised. The Sustainable Seafood Initiative thrives on with continuity.
