13 UBAY Story

The property was acquired by the grandfather ” Lolo Joe” and has been with the family for three generations since. The head chef and owner, Zaza Sarmiento, explained that they chose to keep the “13” because it was their grandfather’s lucky number, as well as the number of grandchildren he had.

Team Profile

Ms. Maria Esperanza Corazon or Chef Zaza Sarmiento as she was named after President Corazon Aquino alongside Chef Riyan Sandagon with a couple of partners way back on November 2014.

Chef Zaza is a graduate of the De La Salle College of St. Benilde and At-Sunrice in Singapore. She has worked in the kitchens of world-renowned Four Seasons Hotel Regent Singapore and Hyatt Regency in Curacao.

Chef Riyan is the in-house chef of MasterChef, the Junior Sous Chef of La Regalade, and Chef de Cuisine in Locavore. Together, they put together a menu inspired by both Filipino and international cuisines that promises you reasonably priced comfort food to fill you up.

Lolo Joe’s Bacon

LOLO JOE’S BACON is a product of 13 UBAY ST. COMFORT DINING. Named after Chef Zaza’s grandfather Joe Sarmiento. BACON has been the go to ulam of Chef Zaza and even her siblings and cousins when they were younger. She made sure that bacon was on the menu and that they make their own when she was a child.

Her paternal grandfather was the official photographer for the Malacañang Palace during Magsaysay’s regime and had the opportunity to travel in many places.  He also had a lot of photos with some of his photos are exhibited at the restaurant.  They are also planning to have an art collaboration with local photographers and budding artists in the near future.

The entire clan had come together in conceptualizing the food and in collecting masks, paintings, art works, photographs from their trips around the world to adorn the walls with.

With years of experience under her belt from working abroad, she made one of her dreams come into reality. Her restaurant is now part of the growing food business in the metropolis. The proximity of the restaurant is within stone throw away from the famed Banawe street , Quezon City’s food street.

The sitting capacity is 100 with an enclosed function area with a sitting capacity of between 30 to 40 people at any given occasion. The function room was named after her maternal grandmother named ” NARDA” Bernarda Rivera.

different kind of dishes

The menus are mic of traditional heirloom family recipes, Filipino comfort foods and fusion foods. Among their specialties includes bacon, ube halaya ,inasal and crispy pata.

There is an ample parking space within the compound. Parts of the restaurant was  also used as a setting in ABS-CBN channel 2 recently concluded revival of Pangako Sa ‘Yo television series.

Sesar Salad is with bagoong isda, shrimp, lettuc, quezo de bola, quail eggs.

Bagoong Rice, Aligue Rice and Fried Rice are among the specialties of the restaurant. All the rice dishes are for sharing between 3 to 4 people.

Chicken Inasal – the chicken is well marinated in lemon grass, achuete oil, vinegar .

Beef Pares – Beef meat is well marinated in star anise, sugar and soy sauce with chopped spring onions.

Chicharon Pata – deep fried pata, red vinegar , soy sauce. The skin is very crunchy, the pata is soft and tender. This is one of their family heirloom food.

From Quezon Avenue, Quezon City – There is a jeep or tricycle which ply the Banawe street.
