The Last Kingdom is based on author Bernard Cornwell’s The Saxon Series. The show is set in 9th century England, where King Alfred must defend his kingdom from the Viking Danes. Meanwhile Uhtred, a young man obsessed with revenge; must choose between siding with his bloodline (Anglo-Saxon) or the people who raised him. Critics praise this as a proper history drama, some say that even though The Last Kingdom has Game of Thrones-like qualities, it is said to be more serious. Rotten Tomatoes gave the show a 86% critic rate while audiences gave it a large score of 91%.
